Off-pavement bicycling can open new horizons for you. In order to maximize the benefit of your adventure and maintain the quality of the experience for those who will follow you, we urge you to adopt this code as your own.

1. I will yield the right-of-way to other non motorized recreationalists. I realize that people judge all cyclists by my actions.
2. I will slow down and use caution when approaching or overtaking another, and will make my presence known well in advance.
3. I will maintain control of my speed at all times, and will approach turns in anticipation of someone around the bend.
4. I will stay on designates trails to avoid trampling native vegetation and minimize potential erosion to trails by not using muddy trails or short cutting switchbacks.
5. I will not disturb wildlife or livestock.
6. I will not litter. I will pack out what I pack in, and pack out more than my share whenever possible.
7. I will respect public and private property, including trail-use sings and no-trespassing sings and will leave gates as I found them.
8. I will always be self-sufficient and my destination objective and travel speed will be determined by my ability, my equipment, the terrain and present and potential weather conditions.
9. I will not travel solo when bike packing in remote areas. I will leave word of my destination and when I plan to return.
10. I will observe the practice of minimum-impact bike packing by taking only pictures and memories, and leaving only waffle prints.
11. I will always wear a helmet whenever I ride.

My bicycles and riding in the mountains

I am riding on my old steel road-bicycle Favorit (made in Czechoslovakia in 1972) to the work every working day all year (cca 2000 km/year).
My MTB is Columbus Thron Cr-Mo double butted Marin Pine Mountain mod. 01 (cca 2000 km/year, 60% off-road) with Shimano LX 95, White Industries and Marin components and AMP F3 XC fork with AMP D1 front disc brake from the company AMP Research (USA, California). The weight of such assembled bike is approx. 11,2 kg.

As a long-standing mountain hiker (since 1979) and mountain biker (since 1990), I know a little bit about paths (tracks) suitable for MTB in the mountain areas listed below.

In the June 2000 I have completely managed (bus transport, accomodation) the successful twelve days long MTB action across the nicest mountains in Slovakia for a group of thirteen mountainbikers from Israel with me as a MTB guide. In the August 2000 I have completely managed (Van transport, accomodation) the successful eleven days long MTB action across the nicest mountains in Slovakia for a group of seven mountainbikers from Israel (MTB Group E-BoDeD - average age of this group was 16 years) with me as a MTB guide. In the June 2001 I have completely managed (car transport, accomodation) the successful fourteen days long road/MTB action across Czech Republic and Slovakia (with one day trip in Poland and another one in Austria) for one American cyclist with me as a road/MTB guide (see 1 photo a' 64 kB from this action (Under construction) HERE).
